12 trippy Batman covers

I’ve often pointed out in this blog that, during the Silver Age, many Batman covers achieved a level of psychedelia akin to a bad acid trip. However, this phenomenon isn’t exclusive to the 1950s and 1960s… Here are a dozen later examples (taken from the Grand Comics Database) of brilliant cover artists – and especially colorists! – trying to drive comic fans magnificently insane:

Norm Breyfogle

Batman 473

Will Simpson

Legends of the Dark Knight 93

Alex Ross

Batman 682

Ed Hannigan and Klaus Janson

World's Finest Comics 305

Kelley Jones

Batman: Unseen #2

Frank Quitely and Alex Sinclair

Batman and Robin 3

Dustin Nguyen

Detective Comics 841

Guillem March

Batman & Robin Eternal 11

Ed Hannigan and Klaus Janson (again)

World's Finest Comics 295

Rich Buckler and Karl Kesel

World's Finest Comics 321

Michael Allred and Laura Allred

Batman '66 4

Chris Burnham

Batman and Robin 26

NEXT: Pulp fiction.
