Len Wein (1948-2017)

In the same year, we lost Bernie Wrightson and Len Wein, the two creators of Swamp Thing. May you rest in peace and do not come back as a tragic vegetable creature or a patchwork Frankensteinian monster reanimated by Anton Arcane.

One day, Gotham Calling will look closely into Len Wein’s memorable and diverse work on Batman comics. Until then, I leave you with one of his most nightmarish contributions:

1 Response to Len Wein (1948-2017)

  1. C.K. Dexter Haven says:

Len Wein’s 1978-80 run on Batman was my introduction to Batman in comics, with one of those issues being the #326-327 story you mention above. The first issue of Batman I can remember owning was Batman #307. (October 1978)

Of course we conic fans owe a huge debt to Len Wein for having created Wolverine and Swamp Thing as well as rebooting the X-Men. Hugh Jackman’s public tribute to Wein as told by Chris Claremont in a recent Hollywood Reporter article about Wein makes for some wonderful reading:

Looking forward to your retrospective on Len’s Batman work.
